ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve

The 2-day Working Meeting on Strengthening the APTERR Mechanism concluded successfully on 29 April 2025 and resulted in fruitful and productive outcomes for enhancing the APTERR mechanism’s effectiveness in emergency response.
To enhance food security, representatives from the APTERR Secretariat and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, met with the United Nations World Food Programmes (WFP) Lao PDR on 11 March 2025 in Vientiane, Lao PDR to exchange insights and expand knowledges and understanding on WFP’s experience in implementing rice fortification as a strategy to alleviate malnutrition in the country.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, led a team of representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan and the APTERR Secretariat to visit the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) of Lao PDR on 11 March 2025 in Vientiane. The visit aimed to enhance understanding of Tier 1 and explore a potential Tier 1 cooperation between Lao PDR and Japan to strengthen food security in the country.
On 25 February 2025, Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI), as a representative from the APTERR Secretariat, participated in the ‘Nutrition and Supply Chain Workshop’ hosted by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) at Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre, Thailand.
The 13th Meeting of the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Council hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan on 19 - 20 February 2025 at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. The meeting aimed to strengthen food security in the region through the APTERR mechanisms.
