ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve
A total of 100 MT of rice, contributed by the People’s Republic of China (P.R. China), has been urgently released under the APTERR Tier 3 programme to assist people affected by a rare and severe hailstorm in Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR. This release forms part of P.R. China’s total contribution of 300 MT under Tier 3 pre-positioned programme for FY 2025, aimed enhancing emergency preparedness for timely response in Lao PDR.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, attended the handover ceremonies of additional 3,000-MT rice generously contributed by the Republic of Korea in response to Myanmar’s urgent request for further rice assistance. The contribution will support more than 400,000 beneficiaries affected by the devastating earthquakes as they continue their recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, together with Mr. Aro Kasakawa, Japanese Expert and the APTERR staff, visited southern Lao PDR during 26-28 January 2026 to participate in and monitor in the distribution of emergency rice assistance contributed by the People’s Republic of China (P.R. China), Japan and the Republic of Korea to support people affected by severe floods and landslides.
The APTERR Secretariat, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DOA), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar, conducted a field visit to earthquake-affected communities around Inle Lake and the DOA Regional Office in southern Shan State to monitor and evaluate the response efforts and assess community resilience following the devastating earthquakes that struck Myanmar in March 2025.
