Asean Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, was invited to be an honourable keynote speaker in the virtual seminar of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Policy Partnership on Food Security (PPFS) on Sharing Good Practices on Sustainable Agricultural Development through Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) hosted by the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC), Thailand during 23-24 May 2022. Mr. Toshiki Tojo, Japanese Expert, along with two APTERR Staff also attended the seminar as the representatives of the APTERR Secretariat.
On 17 May 2022, new General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn started his first mission aboard by attending the ceremonial distribution of Japan’s 3,333 bags out of 9,981 bags (equivalent 300-MT rice contribution) to enhance food security for people affected by Super Typhoon Rai, locally known as ‘Odette’, in the Philippines.
General Manager Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee together with Japanese Expert Mr. Toshiki Tojo and the APTERR staff participated in the ceremonial turnover of 300-MT rice contributed by Japan to support rehabilitation efforts for families experiencing adversity from Super Typhoon Rai in the Philippines. The occasion was hosted by the National Food Authority (NFA) of the Philippines led by Administrator ATTY. Judy Carol L. Dansal at the NFA’s warehouse in Valenzuela city, the Philippines on 17 March 2022.
The Republic of Korea (ROK)’s generous contribution of 300-MT emergency rice assistance has been extending to 7,500 households affected by COVID-19 in seven provinces namely Svay Rieng, Tbong Khmum, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Odor Meanchey, Siem Reap, and Kampong Cham, Cambodia through the APTERR’s Tier 3 programme.
On 14 January 2022, Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, undertook the role of a panelist in the international webinar on “Global Rice Market under and beyond COVID-19: Trends, Challenges, and Policy Responses” organised by the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Kasetsart University and the Agricultural Economics Society of Thailand under Royal Patronage. It had an objective to provide platform for various relevant actors from diverse backgrounds to present and discuss the ways forward for sustainable food system, particularly rice, under the context of COVID-19 pandemic.
