Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, accompanied by, Mr. Aro Kasakawa, Japanese Expert, and the APTERR staff, hosted the meeting with Jefferson Fellowships Programme led by Mr. Steven Youngblood, Programme Coordinator, on 20 October 2025 at APTERR Secretariat. Dr. Sumanya Ngandee, Manager of the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat also attended this meeting.
Jefferson Fellowships is the East-West Center’s flagship journalism programme, intending to leverage news media to enhance public understanding of cultures, issues, and trends in the Asia Pacific region. In 2025, They exploring growing concern about food security in the Southeast Asia region caused by changing environmental conditions, rising prices, declining fisheries and disruption in global supply chains. This occasion of visiting Thailand has provided an opportunity to see and exchange information with APTERR Secretariat.
In this regard, Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager, and Mr. Aro Kasakawa, Japanese Expert of the APTERR Secretariat have shared the detail and information on the APTERR organisation and its activities, including Tier 3 implementation programme, Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI), collaborations with other food security-related international organisations , as well as the views and experiences on food security situation in the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) region. Moreover, Dr. Karnjanakesorn and Jefferson Fellows have exchanged some question, comment and recommendation about food security.
