ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve

The 50-MT rice contributed by the Republic of Korea has been quickly released through the automatic trigger mechanism under the APTERR Tier 3 programme to provide immediate emergency assistance to people severely affected by floods and landslides in Lao PDR. These disasters were caused by a series of tropical storms, including the recent tropical storm Wipha.
The APTERR Secretariat visited Lao PDR on 17-18 July 2025 to bolster collaboration with the Lao government led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) on emergency preparedness and response through the APTERR activities.
A total of 500 MT of rice contributed by the People’s Republic of China (P.R. China) under APTERR Tier 3 was officially handed over on 10-11 June 2025 to assist people affected by the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay, Myanmar.
The APTERR Secretariat, led by General Manager (GM) Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, participated in the handover ceremonies of the Republic of Korea’s 3,000-MT rice contribution under APTERR Tier 3 to strengthen food security for those affected by the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar. The ceremonies were conducted in Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay on 10-11 June 2025.
On 5 April 2025, the APTERR Council urgently approved a release of 3,500 MT of rice under Tier 3 programme to support emergency relief efforts in Myanmar in the wake of the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake striking the country. The rice assistance comprises contributions from the People’s Republic of China (P.R. China) for 500 MT and the Republic of Korea (ROK) for 3,000 MT.
