The Expert Group Meeting on the Operationalization of the Food Stockholding Mechanism (FSM) for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) was organised by the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) on 4-5 February 2026 at UN Headquarters in New York, USA. The meeting focused operational requirements, governance and institutional structures, financial mechanisms as well as logistical consideration to explore the feasibility to establish effective FSM for LDCs. The meeting was attended by diverse group of experts and representatives from UN entities, Member States, regional and international organisations and other related parties.
Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat, was invited to be one of the speakers on 4th February 2026 in the ‘Session 1: Establishing LDC Food Stockholding Mechanism: Leveraging International Initiatives, Building Partnerships and Synergies’ as the APTERR is the successfully established regional and international stockholding and emergency response mechanism in the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) region. In this regard, Dr. Karnjanakesorn has virtually participated the meeting and presented the APTERR’s organisational structures, key mechanisms and activities to the meeting while also highlighted the importance of collaboration and support among the related countries and organisation to form a successful and reliable FSM in the region to strengthen food security and nutrition.
