Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, and Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI), recently participated in the 23rd ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Focal Point. The event took place in Yangon, Myanmar on 17–18 June 2025 hosted by the AFSIS Secretariat in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation (MOALI) of Myanmar.
During the meeting, Dr. Choomjet shared updates on APTERR’s recent activities and achievements, highlighting efforts to strengthen food security and promote regional cooperation during emergencies. He stressed the importance of synergy between APTERR and AFSIS, particularly in food security monitoring and data sharing, as well as capacity building efforts. Dr. Choomjet also expressed heartfelt thanks to the AFSIS Secretariat and MOALI for their warm hospitality and organising such a productive and well-coordinated meeting.
The meeting gathered representatives from ASEAN Member States, the People’s Republic of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, and several relevant organisations. It provided a valuable platform for the APTERR Secretariat to reaffirm its commitment to supporting the AFSIS. Meanwhile, main objectives of the meeting were to review the progress of AFSIS’s projects, share best practices, and discuss strategies for further improving food security information systems together with fostering regional cooperation.
