Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat together with Mr. Aro Kasakawa, Japanese Expert, and Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI), participated in the ‘Regional Workshop on Enhancing Disaster Data Reporting and Integrating New Commodity Data under the Project for Strengthening ASEAN Food Security Information System Function for Emergency (SAFER)’, organised by the ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Secretariat on 21-22 May 2025 in Chonburi province, Thailand.
The workshop brought together experts, statisticians, and technicians from relevant agencies to develop the emergency information sharing mechanisms, and expand the target commodities under AFSIS. During the event, the APTERR Secretariat shared insights on regional rice data and information on food security and acquired new techniques for collecting and integrating data sources, as well as methodologies to improve food security related information in ASEAN. Besides, the APTERR Secretariat along with other participants, visited the Space Krenovation Park (SKP), under the supervision of the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) in Sriracha district, to explore Thailand’s advancement in space and satellite technologies.
The participation of APTERR Secretariat at this workshop underlined the growing importance of regional cooperation in improving early warning systems on regional food security. The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to data sharing, promoting regional collaboration, and enhancing the resilience of communities across the region.
