ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve

Hundreds of people witnessed the significant ceremonial distribution of 560 MT of rice contributed by the Government of Japan to people affected by tropical cyclones INENG (BAILU) and JENNY (PODUL) through APTERR Tier 3 programme.

On 16 September 2019, a ceremonial handover of 560-MT rice contributed by the Government of Japan through the APTERR Tier 3 programme was conducted at the NFA-NCR, Quezon City, the Philippines by the National Food Authority (NFA) of the Philippines

As the APTERR Secretariat had emphasised on the development of human resources, the field study on rice cultivation and organic farming, therefore, was arranged during 2 – 4 September 2019 in the provinces of Kamphaengphet and Sukhothai. This provided real experience and concrete understanding on rice cultivation in local communities.

Rice contributed by the Government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) through APTERR Tier 3 programme was allocated to minimise the suffering of people affected by floods and landslides in Myanmar. General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee, accompanied by Deputy Director General of Department of Agriculture (DOA) and the APTERR Council member from Myanmar, Mr. Aye Ko Ko, attended the ceremonial rice distribution held in Bago region during 9-10 September 2019.

General Manager, Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee together with Head of Implementation, Ms. Jansinee Kankaew and Staff for Implementation, Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum visited Vientiane, Lao PDR during 29 – 30 July 2019, for completing a rice inspection of 500-MT rice under Tier 3 programme contributed by the Republic of Korea (ROK). On this occasion, the APTERR Secretariat held a small meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) and Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (MLSW) to discuss on the issues related to Tier 3 programme implementation.
