On 7 September 2023, Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat, together with Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, and APTERR staff members had an opportunity to meet with the representatives from the World Food Programme (WFP) Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific led by Mr. Arvind Betigeri, Senior Rice Fortification Advisor, and Ms. Anusara Singhkumarwong, Regional Nutritionist, at the office of APTERR Secretariat.

The GM of the APTERR Secretariat first welcomed the WFP representatives and gave a brief introduction about the APTERR mechanism and activities. Meanwhile, Mr. Betigeri provided information on the WFP’s activities in promoting rice fortification in ASEAN countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and the Philippines. Further, both exchanged views and sought the possibility of cooperation on distributing fortified reserve rice with micronutrients to disaster-affected countries in order to strengthen food security in the ASEAN Plus Three region.
