Asean Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve

The APTERR Secretariat led by Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee, General Manager, participated in the 41st Meeting of the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB) organised by the AFSRB Secretariat and hosted by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei Darussalam via virtual conference on 16 June 2021.

 

In the conference, Mr. Shimphalee had an opportunity to report the progress on the implementation of APTERR as well as activities during 2020-2021. The successful implementation of APTERR Tier 1 and Tier 3 programmes was gratefully praised by the Meeting. Over 5,000 MT of rice under the Tier 3 programme was implemented to relieve severe impacts of member countries. The rice was utilised not only for disasters but also for impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic upon the recommendation at the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit on COVID-19 on 14 April 2020.

 

Moreover, he also underscored the successful launch of the new initiative ‘the APTERR Annual Report on Food Security 2020 and Outlook 2021’ which is extensive information on food security for providing useful information to both APTERR Parties and the public.

  

 The 41st Meeting of AFSRB was fully attended by representatives from AFSRB Member countries, ASEAN Secretariat, APTERR Secretariat, and AFSIS Secretariat.

 

The next 42nd Meeting of AFSRB will be hosted by Cambodia.
