China intends to play more roles in the APTERR Tier 3 programme
Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee, General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, expressed a warm welcome to Mr. Wang Liping, Minister Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs, and his team namely Ms. Yu Yang, First Secretary together with Mr. Wu Fei, Attaché from the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, for paying a courtesy visit to the APTERR Secretariat office on 8 April 2021.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on current APTERR activities as well as the day-to-day management of the APTERR Secretariat. Especially Tier 3 programme implementation, Mr. Liping emphasised China’s intention to further active role in the APTERR cooperation framework to assist people affected by disasters including the COVID-19 outbreak to safeguard food security in the region. Besides, this recalled China’s donation of 800 MT of rice assistance to help people affected by typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines during 2013-2014.
On this occasion, the APTERR Secretariat has not only broadened the relationship but also enhanced cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Thailand for effective operations of APTERR to leverage the APTERR mechanism.
