The 40th Meeting of the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB)
On 23 July 2020, the representatives from the APTERR Secretariat participated in the 40th Meeting of the ASEAN Food Security Reserve Board (AFSRB) via video conference at the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand. The Meeting was organised by the AFSRB Secretariat and hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Viet Nam.
Mr. Chanpithya Shimphalee, the General Manager of the APTERR Secretariat, reported the progress on the implementation of the APTERR activities occurred during 2019-2020. The successful trial Tier 1 programme between the Philippines and Japan, the impressive implementation on Tier 3 programmes, and the Food Emergency Monitoring and Information (FEMI) were appreciated and praised by the Meeting. Responding to the recommendation from the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), Mr. Shimphalee also highlighted that APTERR Tier 3 programme will be utilised to safeguard food security as well as minimise uncertain impacts posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Meeting was attended by representatives from ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Secretariat, APTERR Secretariat, ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS).
The next 41st Meeting of AFSRB will be hosted by Brunei Darussalam.
