Asean Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve 

Dr. Choomjet Karnjanakesorn, General Manager (GM) of the APTERR Secretariat, led his team consisting of Mr. Akinori Ando, Japanese Expert, Ms. Nattavadee Sraprathum, Technical Staff for FEMI and Ms. Sita Kumpol, Secretary to the Japanese Expert, attended the ceremonial handover and actual rice distribution of 750 MT of rice contributed by the Republic of Korea (ROK) held in Calbayog City, Samar in Region VIII of the Philippines on 28 February 2024.

 

 

Representatives from the Embassy of the ROK in the Philippines led by Mr. Sang Seung Man, Consul General and Deputy Chief of the Mission, the National Food Authority (NFA) led by Mr. Roderico R. Bioco, Administrator, the DSWD, the local government unites, media as well as beneficiaries were also present in this significant event.

 

 

The 750-MT rice assistance would be allocated to a total of 18,750 families affected by widespread floods and landslides caused by the Shear Line and Low-Pressure Area (LPA) in Region VIII and a series of earthquakes in Region XI and XII. For Region VIII, the rice would be given to strengthen food security of 11,750 family-beneficiaries; 600 of those were in Calbayog.   

 

 

The APTERR Secretariat has been working closely with the NFA to ensure that APTERR rice assistance could support the Philippines in withstanding and rapidly recovering from those back-to-back disastrous calamities.
